Lone StarFITA 2002
This was a record-breaking LSF in several ways. It was attended by around 75 archers, making last year's record attendance of 49 meager in comparison. It was also the coldest, wettest, and windiest LSF in a number of years if not ever. A cold front blew through many hours earlier than expected, leaving all archers, even the well-prepared, shivering. The rain was not heavy, just enough to make things miserable when coupled with the cold. After weeks of spring-like conditions the temperature stayed 25 degrees colder than the predicted 71 high, never getting above 54 degrees F. The winds were continuous and fortunately fairly consistent, but probably averaged 15 to 20 miles an hour. Everything ran smoothly and the full four distances were all shot. Sunday morning saw early sprinkles and strong winds from the south, which kept the temperatures warm, above 70 by the end of shooting. The winds were again high though, causing a lot of gusty conditions and making each archer struggle to maintain form. The double-elimination Olympic Rounds were finished by 1PM, and everyone departed ahead of severe weather warnings for the area.
